If I were forced to pick one craft supply to receive a lifetime supply of, I would without a doubt ask for Mod Podge. I believe Mod Podge to be one of the best products available for amateur crafters, so let’s break down what it is and why I think that.

What the Heck is Mod Podge?
Mod Podge is an all-in-one product. It can serve as an adhesive, a sealant, or a finish for products, giving the item a wide range of projects that it can be used for. It dries clear and super fast, too. The versatility is what makes Mod Podge mine, and many crafters, favorite product to have in our supply cabinet.
What Projects is it Good For?
As I mentioned before, Mod Podge serves many purposes, so let’s talk about some different projects it can be used for based on how you can use it.
Adhesive
Mod podge is a glue, so it works great to apply pieces of paper or other materials to any surface. Examples include:
Scrapbooking
Collaging, like vision boards
Decoupage (which means decorating an item with cutouts of images or colored paper)
Saving puzzles
Sealant
The product can also be used to seal your projects to protect from scratches, prevent fading from sun exposure, and add some durability (especially if the product will be handled frequently). Projects that will benefit from a coat of Mod Podge include:
Canvas paintings
Air dry clay - which I used to seal my tic tac toe board
Photo transfers
Any item with acrylic paint
Finisher
Lastly, Mod Podge can add a desired finish to the project, enhancing the final look to make it look matte or glossy. Any project you use Mod Podge for will also have this effect, it is like double dipping! So, when choosing a Mod Podge to use, also consider the look you want your final product to have. We’ll discuss the different types of Mod Podge next!
The Different Types
Mod Podge has been on the market since 1964, so since then, they have developed a vast catalog of over 20 products to use with different purposes. Each product will say what was designed for - i.e. Mod Podge Puzzle Saver is designed to glue completed puzzles to make it easier to save for display.
If you are specializing in a specific craft, choose the Mod Podge with the formula specifically designed for that craft. For example, if you are doing woodwork, then Mod Podge Wood would probably be the best product for you.
However, if you are a general crafter like me, then I suggest you just stick with the originals which are Mod Podge Gloss and Mod Podge Matte. The original products still work as adhesives and sealants, I just keep both ready due to which finish I want. Plus, just because these products are not specifically designed for an intended purpose, such as wood craft, doesn’t mean they still won’t work!
Below is a chart of all the different types of Mod Podge and their uses from their Amazon page.

All Hail Mod Podge
The versatility of Mod Podge for a variety of projects and all its purposes is why I love it so much. Any new craft I try, I am likely adding Mod Podge to it. I first bought it as a sealant for some painting, but having it on hand helped me as I ventured into air dry clay. Now that you know all about my holy grail, check back next week for my blog about some cool crafts, like wood photo transfers, easily done with the power of Mod Podge!
