Did you know crafting is a great way to improve your mental health? It doesn't matter what kind of project you choose—it could be anything from crochet to doodling to scrapbooking! Taking the time to explore your creative side has some awesome benefits.

Benefits of Crafting
Relax and focus your energy
Crafting is like meditation for people who aren't into meditation (like me). It can help calm your mind, focus on what matters most, and work through difficult emotions. This is because crafting allows you to focus on something that's not so stressful and can help you relieve your anxieties. While the world may be crashing down, you can focus into your own world and be in control of your craft. It is a mini form of escape into a world where only your masterpiece matters.
Spur productive energy
When struggling with mental health, the mundane tasks around the house, like washing dishes or cleaning the shower, can seem overwhelming and draining. No one wakes up with excitement to clean the house. Now working on a new craft and being creative? That sounds like a lot more fun. Starting with a more relaxed and fun activity can help that productive energy begin flowing. Finishing one task (especially something fun) can make other tasks seem less overwhelming and get the productivity energy flowing.
Spread some happiness
One of the best parts of crafting is looking at your finished product and going, “Hey, I made that!” According to Healthline, the rewarding feeling of finishing something releases dopamine which provides feelings of happiness. If you are struggling with mental health, finding sources of happiness is super important! Seeing a physical representation of what you accomplished can help with that. Even after finishing your project, seeing it in your house as a decoration or the appreciation from a gift recipient will bring that feeling of happiness all over again.
Create Something Today!
The point is this: when you make something, your attention shifts to focus on something positive instead of the negative thoughts about yourself or the world around you. You can relax, feel productive, and release dopamine which all improves your mental health. Your mental health needs to be prioritized, and I can’t think of a better way than to craft. Next time you need a brain break, try doodling on scrap paper or follow the guide I wrote on air dry clay!
